Media Center

Welcome to the Alcova Media Center where every student is encouraged to read, believe, and achieve!

Melissa Hervey, Alcova Media Specialist

Melissa Hervey has been a Media Specialist in Gwinnett County for 19 years and has been at Alcova since 2017. Before that, she was a classroom teacher for 6 years. In her free time, she spends time with her husband, her son, Will, and their 2 dogs. She also enjoys playing piano for her church and, of course, curling up with a good book! Her favorite children's books are The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Charlotte's Web.

Melissa Moore, Alcova Media Clerk

Melissa Moore is new to Alcova this year. She loves spending time with her family, traveling (especially to National Parks) and playing board games. When not at school, she often visits her kids in Atlanta (both are students at Georgia Tech), volunteers at her church, spends time reading, or outside listening to podcasts or music! Melissa’s favorite book series include The Berenstain Bears and Anne of Green Gables

  • Kindergarten and First Grade students may check out 2 book for 2 weeks.

  • Second and Third Grade Students may check out 3 books for 2 weeks.

  • Fourth and Fifth Grade Students may check out 4 books and 1 magazine for 2 weeks.

Overdue, Damaged, and Lost Books

  • Students are not charged fines for late and overdue books; however, students are encouraged to return books in a timely manner so that other Alcova students can enjoy them.
  • If a book is damaged, please return the book to the Media Center as soon as possible so Mrs. Hervey and Mrs. Moore can assess the damage and determine if the book can be repaired.
  • Fines for books that are lost or damaged beyond repair are as follows:
    • Paperback Books and Magazines - $5.00
    • Hardback Books and Longer Paperback Books - $15.00
  • Fines will be marked on the student's Media Center account and can be paid via cash, checks made out to Alcova Elementary, or on My Payments Plus
  • Students with overdue books or who owe fines for lost or damaged books will not be able to check-out any more books until the overdue books are returned or the fines are satisfied.
